Electric RTF Beginner R/C Airplane
There is a huge range of beginner planes to choose from these days, so here are just a few examples that are suitable as first-time models, that you might like to consider. At the time of writing this page, they are some of the most popular sellers.
Shown in no particular order, they are all RTF, relatively low cost and meant for the novice...

Firebird Phantom
Low-cost 3 channel range, with Anti-Crash Technology (ACT™) and all you'd want for a first model. The 'Firebird' range is very popular with newcomers to the hobby, and the planes are easy to fly.

Firebird Freedom
Another one from 'Firebird' range and equally as popular as the Phantom. The principle difference here is size, this Freedom is much larger with a wingspan of 50", to the Phantom's 29".

Sky Fly 2
Similar pod-and-boom style design as the two above, this style is always favorite with beginners because of its simplicity. These planes are nice and stable in the air, and very easy to fly.

Ember
An ultra lightweight, very simple r/c airplane. Able to fly indoors or outdoors on a completely calm day, the Ember makes r/c flying very easy and lots of fun, particularly if your airspace is limited in size!

Vapor
Even lighter than the Ember, the newer Vapor is meant for indoor flying. Very easy to fly and sold with the latest 2.4GHz radio control technology. It's feather weight means no or very little damage on crashing, and its slow airspeed gives you plenty of time to react!

Slo-V
A slow flying 2 channel beginners airplane, ideal for some low-key leisurely flying. Very forgiving and its slow flying speed makes it a perfect model to get into radio control flying with.

J3 Cub
For those who prefer a scale r/c airplane, a Cub is always a good choice for beginners. This is 3 channel with very stable and reliable flight characteristics, and a powerful brushless motor.

Electric RC Airplane
Without doubt, electric r/c airplanes give you the easiest, quickest and cheapest way of getting started in powered radio control flying, and the relatively lower price tags and wide availability of these planes make them a big attraction to the hobby.

Firebird Freedom
Firebird Freedom, is a very different style of airplane with a distinct pod-and-boom design. The Firebird range is an extremely popular one for beginners to the hobby; they are easy to fly and great to learn on.

This attractive Super Decathlon makes a great 3 channel aerobatic trainer, its brushless motor and Li-Po power giving it excellent performance, yet the high wing design giving it the stability needed by beginner pilots.

Ambassador
This Ambassador, follows on from the successful Freedom Flyer but features a powerful out runner brushless motor and Li-Po battery pack, and 4th channel ailerons are standard. A great 4 channel trainer and suitable as an all-round electric rc 'sport' flyer.

Apprentice
This E-flite Apprentice takes electric rc trainers into a new age. A great value larger wingspan 4 channel RTF airplane, with the latest 2.4GHz rc technology. This plane is proving itself to be a very popular choice with beginner rc pilots looking to get serious from day one.

P-51 Mustang
This scale P-51 Mustang is a low-wing faster electric airplane, and a very popular scale subject. A great plane for when you've got a few hours under your belt, these are excellent RTF models. Not particularly suitable as a first plane though, because of their speed and lower stability than a high wing trainer.

Gas R/C Airplanes (Nitro)
Gas planes account for the majority of models found at your average r/c airplane club field, although it does have to be said that electric planes are quickly catching up and may even overtake gas ones, in terms of number, with time!

Mini RC Airplane

Not so long ago, so-called mini r/c airplanes would have been 'made to measure' by indoor flying enthusiasts using normal free flight indoor model airplane kits and modifying them to take the new breed of micro servos, receivers, battery packs and motors.

R/C Jets

RC jets, whether gas or electric powered, are the ultimate radio control flying experience if you're looking to fill that need for speed.

Diablo EDF Trainer

L39 Jets

R/C Gliders

Radio control flight in about its simplest form comes in the shape of r/c gliders, and these aircraft are a great way to enjoy some peaceful and relaxing r/c flying.
